MOBIL HUMMER
Anda tentu akan terkesima bila melihat Hummer di jalan. Bukan hanya karena ukurannya yang tidak biasa (lebih besar dan lebar), disain Hummer pun begitu macho bila dipandang. Kendaraan ini dikenal tangguh, harganya minimal 3 milyard dan kalaupun ingin menyewa per hari Rp. 12.500.000,-
Awalnya Hummer dibuat hanya untuk keperluan militer Amerika oleh sang pembuat, yakni, AM General Corporation. Namun, karena berbagai alasan, kendaraan perang ini akhirnya dibuat keperluan sipil. Adapun istilah untuk Hummer versi sipil adalah High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle atau disingkat menjadi HMMWV tapi sering diucapkan sebagai Humvee.
Versi sipil pertama adalah H1 yang dikeluarkan pada 1992 . Kendaraan ini dibuat berdasarkan versi militer 'Humvee M998'. Hummer generasi pertama ini masuk dalam kategori mobil off-road raksasa yang terkenal tahan banting di segala medan.
Perbedaan antara versi sipil/H1 dan versi militer/Humvee (HMMWV) sebenarnya sedikit sekali. Dan lebih terlihat sebagai sebuah penyesuaian keperluan seperti persenjataan dan pelapis baja anti peluru yang tidak dimiliki oleh H1.
H1 memang diperuntukkan sebagai kendaraan sipil, maka, bagian dalam H1 pun dibuat dengan lebih nyaman.
Hummer lalu memasuki tahapan baru ketika model H2 dilepas ke pasar pada tahun 2003. Secara visual, model H2 terlihat lebih ramping, lebih panjang, lebih tinggi, dan lebih ringan daripada pendahulunya H1.
Model H2 sendiri masuk dalam kategori sport utility vehicle atau SUV namun ada pula H2 versi Sport Utility Truck atau SUT dimana H2 dimodifikasi dengan memakaikan bak model truk pada tubuhnya. H2 sendiri sebenarnya adalah sebuah kombinasi cerdas dari berbagai truk yang ada di Amerika seperti GM GMT820, Chevrolet Tahoe dan GMC
Model H2 sendiri masuk dalam kategori sport utility vehicle atau SUV namun ada pula H2 versi Sport Utility Truck atau SUT dimana H2 dimodifikasi dengan memakaikan bak model truk pada tubuhnya. H2 sendiri sebenarnya adalah sebuah kombinasi cerdas dari berbagai truk yang ada di Amerika seperti GM GMT820, Chevrolet Tahoe dan GMC
Namun, sambutan pasar pada model ini ternyata sangatlah positif.
